A Syracuse Fire Department ambulance was in a collision on Friday afternoon while transporting a pediatric patient in Syracuse, N.Y. The incident occurred at 12:12 p.m. when Syracuse Firefighters responded to a medical call on the 1700 block of West Onondaga Street. Ambulance 3 from the Syracuse Fire Department was dispatched, and firefighters from Engine Company 3 and Squad Company from Station 1 provided treatment to the pediatric patient at the scene. The ambulance then began transporting the patient to a local hospital.

During the journey to the hospital, the ambulance was involved in a collision with another vehicle at the intersection of West Onondaga Street and Slocum Avenue. Airbags were deployed, and the ambulance sustained significant front-end damage. Firefighters following the ambulance immediately called for assistance and assessed the scene. Additional personnel arrived to continue caring for the pediatric patient, who was transferred to an AMR ambulance and taken to the hospital.

Four Syracuse firefighters were taken to local hospitals for injuries from the crash, all non-life threatening. The driver and passenger of the other vehicle were treated at the scene and released. After all patients were transported and confirmed there were no vehicle hazards, the Syracuse Police Department took over the scene for investigation.
