A Syracuse Fire Department ambulance was involved in a collision on Friday afternoon while transporting a pediatric patient. The incident occurred at 12:12 p.m. when Syracuse Firefighters responded to a medical call in the 1700 block of West Onondaga Street. Ambulance 3 from the Syracuse Fire Department was dispatched, with firefighters from Engine Company 3 and Squad Company from Station 1 providing treatment to the pediatric patient at the scene before transporting them to a local hospital.

During the ambulance’s journey to the hospital, it collided with another vehicle at the intersection of West Onondaga Street and Slocum Avenue. The collision triggered the deployment of airbags and caused significant front-end damage to the ambulance. Firefighters immediately radioed for assistance and assessed the situation, with additional personnel arriving to carry on with the patient’s care. The pediatric patient was then transferred to an AMR ambulance and promptly taken to the hospital.

Four Syracuse firefighters were taken to local hospitals for treatment of various non-life-threatening injuries sustained in the collision, while the individuals in the other vehicle involved were treated at the scene and later released. Once all patients were safely transported and there were no vehicle hazards, the Syracuse Police Department took over the scene and began their investigation into the accident.
