In Syracuse, New York, the independent film “Plainclothes” is currently in production, featuring actors Tom Blyth and Russell Tovey in the lead roles. Directed by Jamesville DeWitt graduate Carmen Emmi, this film follows the story of an undercover police officer who is tasked with luring and arresting gay men. However, the officer’s life takes a turn when he falls in love with one of his targets.

Emmi shared that he specifically wrote the screenplay with Syracuse in mind, and it ranked in the top 50 out of 5,000 entries in the 2022 Academy Nicholl Fellowship in Screenwriting Competition. Tom Blyth, known for his role in “The Hunger Games” and “Billy the Kid,” stars alongside Russell Tovey, recognized for his work in “American Horror Story” and “Feud: Capote Vs. The Swans.”

Having graduated from Jamesville-DeWitt High School and earning a degree in film and television production from the University of Southern California, Emmi is excited that “Plainclothes” is his first full-length feature film project. The cast also includes Amy Forsyth from “Gilded Age” and Christian Cooke from “That Dirty Black Bag.”

Filming is expected to conclude by the end of March, with the release date yet to be announced.
