K9 units Dex and Rhett receive protective vests in memory of deceased sergeants

CORTLAND, N.Y. — Two K9 officers from the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office are set to receive new protective vests, thanks to a generous donation. K9s Dex and Rhett will be outfitted with bulletproof and stab-resistant vests provided by the non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.

K9 Dex’s vest will bear the sponsorship of Vested Interest in K9s and will feature an embroidered dedication “In memory of Sgt. Meagan Burke.” Similarly, K9 Rhett’s vest will be sponsored by the Conway Family of Linden, New Jersey, with the embroidery “In memory of Sgt. Keith Conway.”

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. was established in 2009 with the aim of supplying protective vests and support to law enforcement dogs across the United States. To date, the organization has distributed over 5,707 vests to K9s in every state, with a total value of $6.9 million. This accomplishment has been made possible through the generosity of both individual and corporate donors.
