Following the deaths of a Syracuse Police Department officer and an Onondaga County Sheriff’s deputy in the line of duty Sunday night, various local leaders have expressed their condolences and support. The Town of Salina Supervisor, Nick Paro, extended his sympathies to the families of the fallen officers, emphasizing the community’s grief and offering prayers. The City of Syracuse Common Council postponed a Syracuse Police Department budget hearing as a mark of respect for the fallen officers. Representative Brandon Williams and Senate Republican Leader Rob Ortt offered thoughts and prayers to the victims’ families and praised the dedication of law enforcement personnel. Assemblymembers Bill Maganarelli and John Lemondes also expressed their condolences and support for the affected families and departments. Notably, legislator Kevin Fitch and County Executive Anthony J. Picente announced lowering flags to half-mast as a tribute to the fallen officers. Additionally, Cayuga County Chairperson Aileen McNabb-Coleman announced a similar gesture of flying the flag at half-staff in honor of the fallen officers.
