Marquardt Switches Inc. Moves Manufacturing Operations to Mexico, Affecting 180 Jobs in Cazenovia

Marquardt Switches Inc. is transferring its production operations from its Cazenovia site in the United States to its plant in Irapuato, Mexico. The company’s North American Headquarters in Cazenovia, N.Y., established in 1981, is specialized in manufacturing electromechanical and electronic switches. Some functions including service, sales, and development will stay in Cazenovia, while equipment manufacturing will remain solely in Cazenovia.

The decision to move was influenced by various factors such as the challenging global economy with consistently low order levels, alongside impacts from the coronavirus pandemic, geopolitical tensions, conflicts, and escalating costs for materials, energy, and workforce. Despite efforts to address these challenges, the company was unable to achieve necessary sales growth, and future projections indicate unsustainable growth at the Cazenovia site. Marquardt Switches Inc. anticipates around 180 jobs will be impacted, with affected employees receiving advance notice, while about 60 jobs will be retained in Cazenovia.

The company expressed regret regarding the situation at the Cazenovia site and assured support for affected employees during the transition. The relocation of operations is targeted to be completed by mid-2025, aiming to maintain competitiveness in the market.
