TOPICS: Amish buggy-SUV collision on State Route 12 in Lowville, N.Y.
LOWVILLE, N.Y. – On Sunday, July 14, authorities from the New York State Police were called to State Route 12 near Yancey Road in Lowville to respond to a crash involving an Amish buggy and a motor vehicle.
According to State Troopers, an initial investigation revealed that a 2020 black Ford Escape driven by Jared J. Spaulding, 40, from Copenhagen, NY, was heading north on State Route 12 when it rear-ended an Amish buggy traveling in the same direction. Spaulding left the accident scene and drove north without stopping.
The collision resulted in all five occupants of the Amish buggy being ejected from the vehicle. A 17-year-old Amish male was found dead at the scene, while a 21-year-old male, 20-year-old female, 18-year-old female, and 16-year-old male were injured. The identities of the injured individuals are being kept confidential until their families are notified.
Two male occupants with serious non-life-threatening injuries were taken to Lewis County Hospital, while the two females sustained minor injuries. Spaulding, the SUV driver, was later found at his residence, and charges are pending the conclusion of the ongoing inquiry.
