ALBANY, N.Y. – Governor Kathy Hochul’s office has reported that state and local law enforcement agencies issued more than 37,000 tickets from July 3 to July 7. “My primary focus since assuming office has been to ensure the safety of New Yorkers, and this includes keeping reckless and aggressive drivers off the roads,” stated Governor Hochul. She added, “As friends and families come together, we are committed to working in close collaboration with law enforcement to ensure a safe celebration for New Yorkers.”

During the enforcement period, a total of 37,899 tickets were issued by state and local law enforcement, with 1,227 individuals charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Last year, a total of 35,104 tickets were issued across the state during the July 4 enforcement period.

This year, the State Police arrested 251 individuals on charges of driving under the influence and issued 12,700 tickets for various offenses. This included 4,248 for speeding, 1,315 for failure to wear a seat belt, 360 for distracted driving, and 219 for disregarding the Move Over Law. Other law enforcement agencies also participated in the initiative, issuing 24,729 tickets for violations such as impaired driving and speeding.

The breakdown of tickets issued by other agencies during the enforcement drive is as follows:
– Alcohol/Drugs: 1,227

– Seat Belt: 2,905
– Speeding: 9,316
– Other Violations: 22,757
