Police: Search for missing boater in Sodus Bay transitions to recovery effort

Sodus, N.Y. — Authorities from the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office have transitioned the search for a missing boater in Sodus Bay from a rescue operation to a recovery mission. The incident began following a report of a boating accident at around 7:45 p.m. on Sunday near Martin’s Tidesides Marine in Sodus Point, where a boat operator and passenger were ejected from the vessel.

Subsequent to the incident, nearby boaters were able to bring the female passenger to shore, who was then transported by Mercy Flight to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment. Despite rescue efforts that continued into the early hours of Monday, the male operator remained missing until the search was temporarily suspended, later resuming at 7 a.m. on Monday.

The circumstances surrounding the boating accident are currently being investigated by authorities.
