ROME, N.Y. — In the aftermath of an EF-2 tornado that tore through the City of Rome, the community is witnessing a remarkable outpouring of support from across Central New York. Residents from neighboring areas and counties are rallying together to aid in the recovery efforts in Oneida County.

The destructive tornado left a trail of devastation, demolishing homes, businesses, and churches in its path. As of Thursday, Rome remains far from returning to normalcy, but significant progress is being made towards rebuilding the city.

Larry Daniello, a long-time Rome resident who experienced the tornado firsthand, described the terrifying sight of the storm and the urgency to seek shelter. Despite the destruction, Daniello considers himself fortunate as his home narrowly escaped serious damage, unlike some of his neighbors who were less fortunate.

As the cleanup operations commence in Rome, the sound of generators fills the air, with neighbors banding together to assist each other in the recovery process. The resilience and unity of the Rome community have come to the forefront, exemplified by the efforts to provide food and support for those affected by the tornado.

Volunteers equipped with chainsaws have been tirelessly working to clear debris and restore normalcy to the city. Anthony Sokolowski, a member of Branching Out Tree Service who traveled from Syracuse to assist in the cleanup, emphasized the spirit of cooperation and solidarity that has defined the recovery efforts in Rome.

The ongoing assistance from individuals like Sokolowski, along with the unwavering support from the local community, demonstrates the strength and resilience of the people of Rome in the face of adversity.
