SALINA, N.Y. — Even individuals in positions of authority, such as Salina Town Supervisor and congressional candidate Nick Paro, are not exempt from crimes like car thefts, as he recently discovered when his wife’s vehicle was targeted in a smash and grab incident.

Paro expressed his concerns about the pervasive car thefts and crime sprees in the community, stating that the incident hit close to home for him and his family. Upon waking up one morning, Paro and his wife found the rear window of her car shattered, prompting them to realize that her car had been broken into and rummaged through. Additionally, another vehicle was reported stolen in the Village of Liverpool, followed by a series of break-ins along 7th North Street where several residents fell victim to broken car windows and potential thefts.

As soon as he discovered the situation, Paro contacted the police and was informed about the series of robberies. He emphasized that crime can affect anyone, regardless of the neighborhood they reside in, and highlighted the current challenges faced by law enforcement and the justice system in holding criminals accountable.

While expressing gratitude for his and his wife’s safety, Paro lamented the invasion of personal property and space, as well as the frustration of being unable to bring the criminals to justice. He emphasized the need for change in addressing the growing empowerment of criminals and the limitations faced by authorities in combating crime effectively.
