Syracuse, N.Y. – Although winter is coming to an end on the calendar, Mother Nature seems to have other plans as winter weather is expected to persist on and off throughout the upcoming week. The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for Oswego, Jefferson, and Lewis Counties due to some minor lake-effect snow accumulating primarily in the Tug Hill area. Travel on Interstate 81 may be slow at times with snowy roads and reduced visibility.

This advisory will not affect the Syracuse area and most of the surrounding regions covered by CNY Central. The atmospheric setup consists of a counter-clockwise flow of cold air around a low-pressure system to the north, leading to potential snowfall extending from Tug Hill to Syracuse due to a wind direction change.

Minor lake-effect snow accumulation is expected in most areas from Monday through Tuesday morning. Long-range forecast models suggest below-average temperatures for the rest of the week, with possible warmer weather returning around March 25-27. For more updates, please stay tuned.
