A man from Springport has been arrested for the death of a dog due to physical abuse. The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office initiated an investigation after discovering a deceased dog in the Town of Springport on Nov. 11, 2023. Subsequent inquiries revealed that Brandon Carlson played a deliberate part in the dog’s demise through physical mistreatment, as confirmed by the Sheriff’s Office. Carlson was taken into custody on March 27 and faced charges of aggravated cruelty to an animal, a class E felony, and tampering with physical evidence, another class E felony. He was released on his own recognizance after being presented at CAP court, with a future court appearance scheduled in the Town of Springport.
