Syracuse volunteers join in OCRRA Earth Day cleanup event

The Onondaga County Resource Recovery Agency (OCRRA) hosted its annual Earth Day Litter Cleanup event earlier this year in Syracuse, NY. The goal was to make Onondaga County cleaner and contribute to a better environment. Last year’s event resulted in the collection of over 100,000 pounds of litter. The community showed strong support for the cleanup, with volunteers joining forces to participate in the initiative.

One resident, Michael Giannattasio, shared his positive experience with the cleanup efforts, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the beauty of the neighborhood. The engagement of local organizations like OCRRA in organizing such events and rallying community members has been crucial in the continuous success of these cleanups.

Earth Day, celebrated globally on April 22, serves as a reminder of the significance of environmental preservation and taking action to protect our planet. OCRRA highlighted that the cumulative impact of small steps taken by individuals can lead to substantial positive changes in Onondaga County. Since the inception of the cleanup program in 1991, almost 3 million pounds of litter have been removed from the community.
