In New Hartford, New York, an 18-year-old man from Augusta was apprehended for allegedly engaging in sexual abuse with a 12-year-old girl in Oneida County. The arrest stemmed from an investigation initiated after the Child Advocacy Center received information regarding the inappropriate contact between the 12-year-old and the suspect, identified as 18-year-old Austin Williamson. Sheriff’s Investigator Mark R. Chrysler led the inquiry, uncovering that Williamson had engaged in illicit sexual interactions with the victim in April 2024 in the Town of New Hartford. Following the investigation, Williamson was taken into custody on July 29 and charged with second-degree sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child, both classified as Class A misdemeanors. After processing, Williamson was transferred to the Oneida County Correctional Facility to await his hearing at CAP Court, where he was remanded to the Correctional Facility on $2,000 bail. Support services have been extended to the victim, and a protection order has been issued on her behalf.
