ROME, N.Y. — The United Way of the Mohawk Valley has established a fund to assist families in Oneida County affected by the recent severe weather events on Tuesday. The City of Rome and the Village of Canastota were particularly hard-hit by tornado activity, resulting in significant damage and tragic loss of life, including an 82-year-old man in Canastota.

Contributions to this fund will provide direct aid to families grappling with the aftermath of the disaster, as they face a lengthy rebuilding process. In collaboration with the YMCA of the Greater Tri-Valley, the United Way is ensuring that every donation reaches those most in need.

Your generosity will have a direct impact on individuals requiring immediate assistance, who cannot afford to wait for potential FEMA aid to begin rebuilding their lives and communities. Regardless of the amount, every donation will play a crucial role in addressing their urgent needs during this trying period.

Emergency management departments have indicated that cash and gift cards are currently the most essential donations needed, surpassing the need for clothing or food items.
